Why an Abyssinian?

01

A Coat That Shimmers

The signature ticked coat carries several bands of color per hair — the effect looks like it moves with the cat.

02

Endlessly Curious

Abyssinians investigate anything new in the house before you've finished unpacking it, and bond closely with their people.

03

Warm, Natural Tones

Ruddy, red, blue, and fawn — minimal patterning, where the color itself is the pattern.

Meet the parents

Families choose a kitten by its parents — so here are ours. Every kitten comes from our own home-raised, health-tested Abyssinians.

Medium, slender and athletic, with long legs and graceful, balanced lines.

Personality

Intelligent, playful and people-oriented. They love to be part of everything you do — without being overly demanding.

Lifespan

Typically 12–15 years with good care.

How an Abyssinian kitten grows

Abyssinian kittens change a lot as they grow. Here's what to expect.

01

Birth to 3 weeks

Eyes open, first wobbly steps and lots of time with mom. Kittens are gently handled every day from the very start.

02

3 to 12 weeks — the ticking comes in

Abyssinian kittens are often born darker, and their signature ticked coat develops gradually as they grow.

03

10 to 12 weeks — ready for home

Kittens go home once they're healthy, litter-box trained, confident and well socialized — usually at 10 to 12 weeks.

04

The first year and beyond

The coat keeps maturing: color warms and the ticking becomes more even — many Abyssinians reach their full coat color at around 18 months.

Don't worry if a young Abyssinian looks darker or less even than the adults in our photos — that signature glow develops with age.

How They're Raised

Raised in our home, not a cage bank

Every Abyssinian kitten grows up inside our home with daily handling and interaction, so the curious, people-oriented temperament the breed is known for is already there by the time you meet them.

Certifications & Health

Our breeding cats come from carefully selected bloodlines imported from Europe and Canada.

CFA Registered

Our Abyssinians are registered with CFA, and Bimini Cats is a TICA-registered cattery.

Health-Tested Parents

Every breeding cat tests negative on UC Davis DNA panels for FIV/FeLV, PK-Deficiency and PRA-b, and is screened for HCM by a veterinary cardiologist.

Vet-Checked Before They Go Home

Every kitten is examined and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations.

FAQ

Are Abyssinians good with dogs, other cats and kids?

Yes. Abyssinians get along well with dogs of any breed, with other cats and with children — they're social and love being where the action is.

Are Abyssinians hypoallergenic?

No cat is 100% hypoallergenic, and no honest breeder can guarantee it — every person reacts differently. If allergies are a concern, tell us and we'll talk it through honestly.

Do Abyssinians shed a lot?

Less than most short-haired breeds — their fine, ticked coat needs minimal grooming, though they still benefit from an occasional brush.

What's the difference between males and females?

There's no difference in personality — both are affectionate, playful companions. The main difference is size: males are bigger and more muscular.
